Purpose:With changes in the General Safety Regulations 3, every training provider are required to be accredited with a relevant SETA before approval from the Chief Inspector of Department of Labour. First aid becomes a qualification, therefore not lapsing every 3 years.  This skill program consists of 2 SAQA unit standards: 119567 & 116999, thus replacing the DOL – Level 1 First Aid course
Unit standard 119567 is for persons required to assess the emergency situation and providing basic Life Support and basic First Aid in order to stabilise patients prior to transfer to the emergency services. People credited with this unit standard are able to:
·         Demonstrate an understanding of emergency scene management
·         Demonstrate an understanding of elementary anatomy and physiology
·         Assess an emergency situation
·         Apply First Aid procedures to the life-threatening situation
·         Treat common injuries
Unit standard 116999 the learner will be able to apply the fundamental knowledge of HIV & AIDS to their everyday life
